In a rapidly changing San José neighborhood we see the spectrum of what it’s like to live in San José.

The neighborhood around Lenzen Avenue to The Alameda could be almost any neighborhood in San José – we see extremes – there are low-income apartments filled with families, newer luxury condos, and families trying to inconspicuously park under the cover of a dark industrial corner.

On this same block there’s a weekly offering of the heart, where unhoused folks provide the most basic necessity of clothing for other people who are unhoused in the community.

Here’s a look at how folks have coped worlds of possibility apart as economic drivers place a sustainable life in the Silicon Valley out of reach. Folks share how they feel the City of San José is responding or not responding to their needs and what they are looking to next.
